Our client enrolled with CLG in September 2023 with a Mariner Finance (Creditor) loan. Our client had opened an account with the creditor in the beginning to help his son in college and then the creditor actively pushed the client to refinance his loans and just sign the paperwork with them, without educating him on his rights or liabilities.
The creditor never provided him information on how to file any claims with the credit insurance, and as a result our client suffered major hardship and harassment from the creditor before enrolling with CLG, when his work hours were significantly reduced, or he received his cancer diagnosis. CLG enrolled the client and sent a dispute letter to the creditor, however, we received no response, instead the creditor sent a summons and sued the client in December 2023.
The creditor did not want to settle and instead constantly filed motions with the court, forcing CLG to actively litigate instead of settling. The creditor also demanded that CLG dismiss the counterclaims with prejudice and threatened to file sanctions if the complaint is not dismissed. Our attorney fought the case and successfully negotiated an out of court settlement for the client in July 2023 with a reduced payment to 50% of the original outstanding amount to be paid in installments over 12 months.
