Our client was transferred to CLG as a client from Litigation Practice Group post their bankruptcy in June 2023. She had a default judgment against her for a Synchrony Bank credit card debt which was not enrolled with CLG at the time, and her wages were garnished in September 2023. CLG received the default judgment in November 2023 and immediately started negotiations with the creditor.
The client was severely impacted by the garnishment, and it was affecting her 4 kids- 2 of which are in school and 2 are in full time daycare. The client told our attorneys that if this garnishment were to go through, other crucial bills would not get paid such as groceries, day care costs and her utilities bill.
Our attorneys spoke to opposing counsel of the creditor and emphasized that we have been trying to get this debt settled for quite some time. CLG told the creditor that this garnishment will put an enormous strain on our client, however, the creditor said that they could not give a better offer. CLG then filed an opposition to income execution with the court and after oral arguments, the judge signed an order modifying the garnishment execution and reducing the client’s monthly payments to 100$ a month.
